Our Story
A hint of luxury in every dish..
As a passionate home cook, I started my culinary journey when I moved from Iran to Milan, Italy. Feeling homesick, I received Iranian recipes from my Mother and I found cooking to be a relaxing and stress-reducing respite. As I became acquainted with my new home, I found the city’s vibrant saffron culture a wonderful reminder of my native Khorasan region, which supplies 90% of the world’s saffron. Milan, a long-term center of intercontinental trade, has known and used saffron for hundreds of years, most prominently in its world-famous risotto Milanese.
I slowly became inspired by the Italian cooking tradition, with their ability to savor and celebrate the simple moments, and to elevate everyday dishes with the quality of their ingredients. As my love for cooking grew – both for the creative outlet and the connection it provided – I incorporated my beloved Iranian saffron in as many recipes as I could.
Dinner guests would unanimously confirm that the saffron I used had a distinctly sophisticated and more delicious taste than the one commonly available in Italy.
Hence, the idea for Zafferia was born.
Together with one of the world’s leading and award-winning saffron farmers, and my partner Jonas, I decided it was time let people experience and celebrate the full color, taste, and health-benefits that Iranian saffron has to offer.
We are dedicated to realizing the beauty of food, gathering and community — a sentiment shared by Italians and Iranians and all peaople alike. We enjoy Zafferia saffron everyday, and we hope you will too.
